The 2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan is no longer available with the 5.0 V8. This also means the LSD option is gone as well.

Kinja'd!!!

Canada however still has the 2015 Genesis on sale and their 5.0 model came with HTRAC AWD standard. So the DH Genesis with the V8, RWD, and LSD just became an extremely rare car. One model year, one market, final time ever badged as a Hyundai. This will not be a collector’s car, just a funny bit of trivia like the F-Type V8, RWD only existing for the 2014 model year. Or the fact that 2014 Chevy SS Sedans are the only model year without magneride.

So what does this mean? Probably that the V8 is going to be replaced by the new twin-turbo 3.3L V6. That could make anywhere from 360hp to 380hp. This also means that the Genesis G70 (3-series fighter) will not have a V8, but a 3.3T V6 even in “N” performance tune.

Before anyone bemoans something they didn’t care about, I’m betting Infiniti is going to do the same, replacing the 5.6L V8 with their new 3.0T that can put out 400hp. So no more of this:

V8's are going away.

I don’t want V8's to go away.

NA V8s are going away, just like NA V6s and NA 4-cyls too. Look through JLR, Mercedes, BMW, and VW and see how many NA engines are left. Even Hyundai and Kia are getting close to switching, followed by all the Japanese brands.

What we will have are twin-turbo/supercharged/electric assisted engines. So the next Mustang GT may use a supercharged V8 to make 500hp. NA may be reserved for extremely track focused, low production vehicles that will be expected to have a manual transmission.

So don’t worry about cylinders leaving, we still have V12s and a majority of those have twin-turbos, same with W16s. Only V10s are as good as dead and probably won’t come back like 5-cyl variants.

Where I live (Mexico) the only car left you can buy new with a V8 and a manual is the Mustang.

agree - I don’t feel the need for everything to be super/turbo/electric-charged. More expensive, more to bust. But maybe I am just old...
